Dancers from Anniesland,Carluke,Edinburgh,Milngavie and Paisley formed the eighteen strong cohesive troupe that rehearsed and performed at The Go Dance Festival at The Theatre Royal on the 27th February 2024. These dancers were supported on the evening of the performance by a further thirty dancers and friends some of whom rehearsed with the performers. We were particularly pleased that one dancers from Anniesland who is deaf was an integral part of the performance,
Being part of Go Dance enhanced the confidence of the individuals and they remarked on how exhilarating it was to be on stage, The dancers were keen to share their delight in circle dance on social media,
Thanks to the funding the professional photos were used to great advantage Posts on social media particularly Facebook and Instagram were followed and shared.
In South Lanarkshire this led to one Dancer/teacher being invited to be part of VASLAN (Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire ) with several community projects expressing the wish for Circle Dancing to be included in their programme, funding permitting.
In Carluke there are new members who having seen the video from Go Dance on local Facebook pages have tried and enjoyed Circle Dancing and joined the regular group,
Being part of Go Dance gave the opportunity to talk about the many physical and mental health benefits associated with this style of community dance to a wider audience.
Thanks to the grant from National Lottery Community Awards going forward we have a strong core of ambassadors for Circle Dance and we can continue our stated aim of developing Circle Dancing in the community for people of all ages abilities and backgrounds and celebrate cultural diversity. through music and dance. This will allow many more people to experience the sense of wellbeing,social interaction and deep sense of connection that come with being part of the dance circle.
